    Du Maurier Literary Festival

    Since 1997 Fowey has celebrated its rich cultural heritage in the now officially titled Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature. Recognised as Cornwall’s premier literary festival, with past celebrity appearances from novelist Michael Morpugo, poet Roger McGough, author Kate Williams and children’s author Lauren Child.

    Fowey Regatta Week

    Fowey’s premier week of the year. With sailing events out on the estuary, the town and surrounding area comes alive with carnivals, floral dances, music performances, giant pasty ceremony and eating competitions, and in past years displays from the Red Arrows.

    Christmas Market

    One of Cornwall’s most magical festive events, with markets spread across the Town Quay, Albert Quay, Webb Street and Town Hall venues, around 100 quality regional traders attend. Locals and visitors alike revel in the market’s community atmosphere.

Shops

The town has a quaint mix of independent shops, galleries, cafes and pubs. Daily essentials are also catered for by the butchers, bakers and convenience stores, and outdoor gear is available from a number of outlets.


Regular festivals for food, literature and other activities are often held around the streets.

Town Quay

The main quay is a focal point for daily activities. Boats can be hired, ferries caught or it is simply a great place to sit and watch the day go by.


The ‘Rook with a Book’ statue, in homage to Daphne Du Maurier’s novel Birds, along with the town cannons and pay-for-view telescopes all point out to sea from the raised platform and seating area.

Food & Drink

There are 7 great pubs to discover, each with their own unique styles and fayres. Several great restaurants, ranging from pizzas to pintxo and tapas as well as fine dining options.


Whether it's a quick pasty, fish & chips on the quay, or a multi course experience you are after Fowey has much to offer.

Ready Money Beach

The town beach is a short walk to a sheltered cove to the south of town.


A diving platform is moored in the bay for most of the year, and a shop and cafe offer beach toys and refreshments.


From here a path leads up into the woods to St. Catherine's Castle and the coastal path to the day-mark at Gribbin Head and on to Polkerris.
